چکیده
This work was designed to assess and compare the heavy metals accumulation phytoremediation ability of some allium species (Garlic; Allium sativum Onion; cepa) grown on two different soils (contaminated Control soils) using standard methods. Heavy (of Cr, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb, Zn) Concentrations (mg/Kg) were determined atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS Model: 210VGP). Plants growth biomass production assessed. Biological concentration factors (BCF) translocation (TF) calculated. The mean levels elements obtained ranged widely from 0.55 mg/Kg Ni 1830.64 Fe. results showed that onion accumulated higher concentrations all compared garlic with exception Zn. However, differences in metal where significant only Cr Mn. Phytoremediation efficiency indices (BCF TF) a similar trend for both garlic. BCF values Zn, Mn Fe generally high > 1. Pb had their TF greater than Thus, can be used as potential phytoextraction plant. similarities most these trends, between might due being physiological features same family.

Fluoride toxicity effects in onion (Allium cepa L.) grown in contaminated soils.
A pot experiment was carried out under controlled condition to investigate the accumulation, uptake and toxicity effects of fluoride (F) in onion (Allium cepa L.) grown on the soil contaminated by inorganic fluoride (NaF). Six different levels of soil contamination were used by adding 0, 100, 200, 400, 600 and 800 mg NaFkg(-1) to the soil. The F concentration in shoot, bulb and root varied betw...
متن کاملAbility of some crops for phytoremediation of nickel and zinc heavy metals from contaminated soils
The present study was aimed at comparing the ability of three crop plants for phytoremediation of zinc (Zn) and nickel (Zn) from soils. A factorial (3×2×3) experiment based on RCBD was used to compare the treatments, and was repeated three times. The first factor was crop type (wheat, clover and rapeseed), the second factor was heavy metal types (zinc (Zn) and nickel (Ni)) and the third factor ...

Antimicrobial activity of different concentrations (50, 100, 200, 300 and 500ml/l) of essential oil extracts of three type of onions (green, yellow and red) and garlic against two bacteria, Staphylococcus aureus, Salmomella Enteritidis, and three fungi, Aspergillus niger, Penicillium cyclopium and Fusarium oxysporum, was investigated. The essential oil (EO) extracts of these Allium plants (garl...
متن کاملGarlic (Allium sativum)
Overview Garlic’s current principal medicinal uses are to prevent and treat cardiovascular disease by lowering blood pressure and cholesterol, as an antimicrobial, and as a preventive agent for cancer. The active constituents are several complex sulfur-containing compounds that are rapidly absorbed, transformed and metabolized. Pooled data from numerous randomized trials suggest that garlic low...

The interaction with iodine metabolism following ingestion of Allium cepa (onion) and Allium sativum (garlic) by albino Wistar rats have been studied. The determination of the effect of the oral administration of onion and garlic extract on thyroid hormones (triidothyronine,T3, thyroxine,T4 were studied. The mean values of triiodothyronine (T3) for the experimental animals were 1.23 ± 0.09ng/ml...
